FAQs

What will happen if we don’t apply, or don’t get World Heritage status?

There is no guarantee that we will apply for World Heritage status, and there is certainly no pressure being applied to make an application. However if we enter a period when government funding for conservation becomes a budgetary problem, an area that has World Heritage status would be in a better position to argue its case.  Without World Heritage Site status, the Lake District will remain well protected and promoted by its National Park status and nomination process and community engagement activity will have long lasting benefits.
