What does World Heritage Status actually mean?

It means that the Lake District will be recognised by the international community as an area of universal significance. The Lake District will appear on the list of World Heritage Sites which are held at the headquarters of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation in Geneva.
