FAQs

Will this bid highlight the conflict between conservation and economic development?

This is clearly a genuine cause of concern among some people, but other very popular World Heritage Sites have also faced this issue and many are using their status for economic gain. We believe that the broad partnership of organisations that support the bid, will bring together an even wider perspective to this debate and help to effectively decide where the balance should lie between conservation and economic development. The Partnership intends to use World Heritage Status to move forward not backwards.
