YOUTH SUMMIT - SCHOOLS COMPETITION

UNESCO World Heritage Youth Summit 2009

As part of the ‘Making Sense of Your Sites' Conference on 20-21st May 2009, UNESCO UK are inviting delegations of young people from all over the UK to represent their local World Heritage Site at the first ever UNESCO UK World Heritage Youth Summit.  In a recent competition we are looked for young people who are interested in global issues and who are passionate about the conservation of internationally important natural and cultural environments to represent Cumbria and the Lake District.

Queen Katherine School, Kendal won the competition to attend the the Youth Summit which is focused on young people discussing issues associated with World Heritage in the UK, such as how we can best manage our Sites with a view to future challenges such as climate change, urbanisation and the global credit crunch.  The winning youngsters will mix with similar minded young people from all over the country to discuss key conservation issues that they will then present back to the Summit.
